Following several demos and two private-pressed lathe cut 7" EPs, Shanghai-based Katharnum summons Annals of the Preternatural, the band’s first official vinyl LP.

Immerses listeners in forgotten Chinese folklore and dark mysticism, Annals of the Preternatural is an opus serves as an auditory grimoire, chronicling Far Eastern occultism and eerie animistic rituals.The album documents shape-shifting fox spirits, wandering apparitions, and forbidden arcane arts, embarking on a chilling exploration of the supernatural realm. Utterly detached from earthly reality, Annals of the Preternatural offers a profoundly immersive atmospheric journey, dragging listeners into fog-shrouded ancient temples and plunging them into the ever-expanding dread of the netherworld.

It is said that during the early stages of composition, the band ventured deep into remote Northeastern villages to seek out hidden shrines and dilapidated temples dedicated to these feral spirits. They masterfully melded the primitive, oppressive energy of folk trance rituals (Chu Ma), the frenzied ravings of spirit possession, and the primal fear of unknown forces into the album's spine-chilling dissonant chords and murky dungeon atmosphere. This profound excavation of local dark folklore fully imbues Katharnum with a pure, malevolent aura deeply rooted in the East Asian soil.
